At age 3, my parents abandoned me with my grandma and youngest aunt to go traipsing around France. It was a work trip so they eventually had to come back, but soon after they did, we were off again to Hong Kong. Since then we've lived in France, Thailand, England, the Philippines and Spain, as well as spending a few years here and there in Bangladesh. Each country we've lived in we used as a springboard to travel to more places around the world. And of course, every part of the world brought with it its own culture and cuisine. I grew up quite literally travelling and eating the world.
I started this blog in 2012, around the time I was finishing university. I was about to start a job in London, and finally become fully independent. Back then, I wanted to learn how to replicate the food my mom cooked at home. It was a project that was both practical and sentimental - practical because I needed to be able to cook what I like to eat, and sentimental because food is a part of my culture I am quite attached to. Over time, I've deviated from my mom's recipes and incorporated ideas from other friends and family, as well as "developing" some of my own dishes.
This blog is first and foremost a personal cookbook. It's where I keep my recipes, notes and ideas, and I refer back to this site myself when I'm cooking. As such you'll see quite a few vague recipes here, especially with the older posts, where I guesstimate ingredients or promise myself I'll try this recipe differently next time. Given our family's travels, combined with the hundreds of restaurants I've eaten at over the years, I thought it would make sense to add reviews to the blog as well. Admittedly, most of these reviews will be for venues in the UK, where I'm based currently. These will be supplemented by a handful of posts on Bangladesh, and perhaps an odd review here and there from other countries.
My interests other than food include technology, sustainability, current events, multiculturalism, gaming, being in water and of course, sleep! If you want to know more or have any questions about any of my posts, feel free to get in touch on Twitter.
